Industrial production volume index is relative index showing changes

in the volume industrial production to assess growth level of production

and business activities of individual enterprise, individual industry and

industrial sector as a whole.

Calculating industrial production volume index using weighting coeffi￾cient in constant prices is a traditional method, which has been used in

our country for last 60 years. This is a simple method, describing quite

reasonably all changes in industrial production volume provided all

needed information is available and statisticians comply with calculation

rules. Nevetheless, this method has revealed several weaknesses as fol￾lows: current constant price table is outdated as is was constructed from

1994; constant prices applied to calculate industrial production volume

index are easily to become out of date in the context of markeri econ￾omy; applying this method requires reconstruction of constant price

table, that is difficult to do due to many reasons... Therefore, General

Statistical Office has intention to step by step replace method of industrial

production volume index by other one. But it is advisable to take the

replacement process in a graduall, scientific manner in line with a con￾sistant plan.
