Prevalence of the round worm Oesophagostomum infection in pigs
in Thai Nguyen province

SUMMARY
The infection by Of^ophagostomum spp in pigs in Thai Nguyen province was characterized
by examination of 2035 fecal samples collected from 3 distiicts of the province. The results
indicated tiiat the average prevalence of the infection was 33.76% varying from 28.13 to 37.91%.
Among the infected pigs, the heavily and very heavily infected were 13.69%. The prevalence
and infection intensity were found higher in the older pig groups. In pigs older than 6 months,
the jjrevalence was 58.85% and the heavily and very heavily infected was 24.77%. The
seasonality of the infection was clear and significant (P<0.001); in the hot season, the prevalence
was found lower than in the other season.
The industiial pig farms had a lower prevalence and infection intensity than the tiaditional
pig farms.
