ung thu' tuyen tien liet. Hien nay, ngudn cung
cap lycopene tu" tu" nhien bang phu'dng phap
chiet xuat tCr mdt sd loai qua nhu' gac, ca chua,
bu'di dd... cd mdt sd yeu diem nhu' phu thudc
thdi vu va khd tien hanh d quy md Idn. Do vay,
can xay di/ng cac ngudn cung cap lycopene nhan
tao. Trong con du'dng tdng hdp lycopene, gene
crti ma hda cho enzyme phytoene
dehydrogenease xiic tac cho phan liYig chuyen
phytoen thanh lycopene. Trong nghien cii\i nay
chiing toi da tach ddng va xac djnh binh tu" gene atl
tu' vi khuan Pantos ananatis. Ket qua thu du'dc
gene crtfciia Pantoea ananatis &Seu dai 1479bp cd
binh hi tu'dng dong 100% vcfi hinh tiT gene atl

CLONING OF c/tTGENE CODING FOR
PHYTOENE DEHYDROGENASE FROM
Pantoea ananatis
Abstract Lycopene, a red carotenoid
pigment, is an effective antioxidant which has
been shown to have preventive effects against
some cancers, e.g., prostate cancer. Currently,
the commercial lycopene is provided by natural
sources which are facing remarkable
disadvantages such as season dependence and
difficulty in larger scale. It is necessary to

generate other sources of artificial lycopene
production. In the lycopene synthesis pathway,
phytoene dehydrogenease, encoded by crtI
gene, catalyzes the conversion reaction of
phytoen to lycopene. In this study, we have
cloned and sequenced crtI gene from Pantoea
ananatis. The sequence of the cloned 1479 bp
fragment is 100% matched with the previously
published crtl isolated from Pantoea ananatis
Gene bank number D90087.2. The cloned cfff
will be used for our upcoming studies of E coll
metabolic engineering to produce carotenoid.
