Summary
HISTOLOGICAL CHANGES AFTER ONE YEAR OF ENTECAVIR TREATMENT
IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC HEPATITIS B
Objective: To evaluate histological changes in liver biopsy induced by 48 weeks of entecavir treatment
in adult chronic hepatitis B patients. Methods: we randomly assigned 47 chronic hepatitis' B virus, the
patients received 0,5mg entecavir once daily, in which sixteen patients had liver bio[)y t'or modified
Knodell score evaluation prelreatment and al week 48 of entecavir treatment. Results: Histologic
improvement at week 48 of entecavir treatment occurred in 62.5% patients. Necroimflammatory score
decreased from 10.8 ± 2.9 to 5.3 ± 2.4 (p < 0.0001). Mean fibrosis score showed a reduction in their
score from 3.19 ± 1.97 to 2.81 ± 2.07. The reduction of mean serum 1IBV - f5NA levels al week 48 was -
6.23 ± 1.68 logeopies/ml, HBeAg seroconversion occured in 15.9%. Conclusion: histological improvement
in liver biopsy achieved highly at week 48 of entecavir treatment in chronic hepatitis B patients.
