INJECTION MOLDING SIMULATION ANALYSIS

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to utilize Moldflow Plastics Insight software to analyze mold flow

process of making pallet and to study the effect of number of pouring mouth on product formation

including those of finishing time, flowing mark situation and temperature profile. Size, flowing

mark and level of temperature will influence the product density, appearance, and product

toughness. In design stage, mold-flow analysis helps to find out the optimal processing conditions

by evaluating the analysis of mold temperature, melt temperature, cooling time, injection pressure,

packing time and packing pressure. According to the analysis results, designer can choose the best

mold with lowest cost in a shortest time. From the analysis results the mold of plastic pallet is

preferable with information of having 8 gates and multi-lines cooling system, the temperature

value of product using the multi-lines cooling system can decrease from 255^0 to 80^0. Plastic

pallets usually have big dimensions. The mold of pallet will be very big and not allow mistake in

mold manufacturing. This induces the fact that designer can chooses Moldflow software to analyze

mold design which is the best way to designing an injection mold.

INTRODUCTIQN

In previous time, the pallet was usually made

by wood. It is very heavy and easy to be

broken. Nowadays, there exists a trend of

replacing the material with plastic materials.

Plastic pallet is made from high impact

strength HDPE and injection molded. Adopt

counterbalance design to have high strength,

good impact resistance, high loading and long

working life. Thus its normal working life is

scores of times that of wooden pallet.

Customers can recover the cost in 3 years due

to its durability.

Plastic pallet has many advantages compared

with wooden one as follows: less weight, neat

and good appearance, no nails or splinters, no

poison, impervious to acids & alkalis, no

sparkles, explosion prooL skid prooL high

value in return use. Its original dimension,

rigidity and impact strength will last for many

years. As is well known to us, it is dangerous

to operate with wooden pallets. Plastic pallet

guarantees security for a long period. It is

suitable for food, aquatic products, health,

chemicals, apparel, shoes, electronics &

electrical, rubber, fertilizer, feedstufL port,

and so on. It has become a good assistance in

storage and transition and ideal packing

container for factory and enterprise.

In Son's work, [1], the weldline morphology of

inodified-poly(phenylene-oxide)- /palyamide-6

blends has been investigated. A distinct

contacting layer consisting of fine spherical

particles was observed from the V-notch at

the surface to the center of the molded part

for the low viscosity ratio blend. In contrasL

such small particles were not found and a

slight deformation was observed near the

part's surface for the high viscosity ratio

blend. The weldline morphology was found to

be dominated by the deformation, the breakup,

and the relaxation of the dispersed modifled￾paly(phenylene oxide) phase. The effect of

injection conditions on the weldline

morphology has also been investigated. The

morphology of the meldline was quite
