CLINICA L FEATURE OF APHASIA, AGNOSIA , APRAXIA I N ALZHEIME R DISEASE

Aphasia, agnosia, apraxia were diagnostic standards of DSM,4, so far in Vietnam there're not study on

this field. Objectives: to describe features of Aphasia, agnosia, apraxia and its effects on daily activities of

Alzheimer patients. Method: we have studied 35 Alzheimer inpatients according to standard of DSM - 4

at some central mental hospitals in Hanoi for 5 years. Descriptive, perspective, follow - up study and

MMSE, C T of Brain were used. Results: aphasia and apraxia appear from early stage of disease. In

demonstrative period; Aphasia was on 100% patients (including receive aphasia - 100% and expressive

aphasia - 48.6%). Agnosia was on 71.4% patients (expecialy; visual agnosia - 48.6%). Apraxia was on

82.8% patients (expecialy difficulty on using instruments, equipments on their family - 77.1%).

Impairment on facing to life - needs was on 100% patients after 2- 3 years of disease (loss of

self - care - 25.7%). Conclusion: aphasia, agnosia, apraxia were very common and variform but

characteristic. They usually occur early and in mixed types, then, patients would be quickly lost

independence on their daily activities.

impairment of ability on performing purposive motor activities (without damage of motion system ).
