ABSTRACT

I had an experience at A Chau English center for a while. I was aware that many of the

teachers at this center used an effective teaching method. It is the storytelling method. I had

heard this method many times but still did not have too much understanding about it. Therefore, I decided to research to find out the effects of the storytelling method in teaching

vocabulary. The primary research objects were beginners studying English at the A Chau

center. To get the exact results, I used questionnaires for beginners and interviews for teachers. Both students and teachers recognized that this method brought many benefits. Not only is it

effective in terms of knowledge, but it also helps students improve life skills and attitudes. Furthermore, I also conducted interviews with teachers to know how they apply this method

effectively in the classroom. However, this method still had a few problems. Based on the

results obtained, I also offered some recommendations to teachers and beginners. It is hoped

that this study will help people understand more about the effects of this method and how

teachers used it in teaching. Key words: beginners, storytelling, teaching vocabulary.

During the period of doing graduation thesis, I received a plenty of enthusiastic help

and support that guide and encourage me to overcome all difficulties and finish this hard but

meaningful time. Firstly, I would like to express thanks to the School Board of Industrial University of

Ho Chi Minh City and the Faculty of Foreign Languages creating favorable conditions for me

to take my graduation thesis. Secondly, I sincerely thank to Ms Tran Thi Xuan Thuy - my supervisor who gave me

useful guidance and advice that help me to finish my thesis successfully. Thirdly, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to Mr Khanh Duy, Ms

Thi Hong, Ms Thao My, Ms Thu Trang and Ms Tien at A Chau English center when

accepting our interviews to help me complete my report. I am grateful to 100 learners at A

Chau center because of participating in our survey. Last but not least, I would like to thank my group members. They are Nguyen Thi

Hang Ni, Che Thi Ngoc Bich who often shared my feelings and gave me timely advice during

the report. We give opinions together, discuss and conduct a survey to show the best results

for the graduation thesis. In short, I really thank to all people helping me to finish this graduation thesis.
