1.Relative pronouns:( Mệnh đề quan hệ)

For persons(Dùng

cho người)

who /( that) whom /(that) whose

For things(Dùng

cho vật)

which /( that) which /(that) whose /(of which)

Ex: - The student who answered the questions was Jonh.

- This is the man whom we saw.

-The girl whose picture you took is my sister.

Ex: -The pencil which is in your pocket belongs to me.

-The car which he bought is expensive.

-The tree whose branches are dead will be felled tomorrow.

* “That” : Bắt buộc phải dùng :”That”:

1. Sau một tiền trí từ hổn hợp :( Chỉ người và vật).

Ex : The old man and two dogs that passed my house made much noise.

2. Sau một tính từ cực cấp:(So sánh nhất)

Ex : This is the most beautiful dress that I have

3. Sau các từ : all ,every , very ,only ,first , last ,much , one ,little ,some, any,no ,it is..that

Ex : He reads the every person that I intend to see

Ex : He was the first person that came in

Ex : Everything that is under the sun is nothing new

“That “: Không được dùng trong mệnh đề không giới hạn ( Mệnh đề có 2 dấu phẩy)

Ex : Shakespeare ,who wrote Romeo & Juliet ,died in 1616

Ex : Miss Smith, whom you met at our house ,is going to marry Mr Jonh

Ex : Ann,whose pain was now worse ,called a doctor

Ex :This cheque, which he posted a fortnight ago ,has only just arrived

• Where: =in which : Thường được dùng để chỉ một nơi nào đó

(city,country,room,house,village.....)

Ex : The house where (=in which ) you live is smaller than mine

• When : =at /on where : Thường được bổ nghĩa cho danh từ chỉ thời gian

(year,date ,time , day,century.....)

Ex : I will never forget the day when (=on which) I met you

• The reson why :Tại sao

Ex : He wanted to know the reson why I was late
