Share Your “Hard Knocks” and Experience With

Your Readers

“Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test

first, the lesson afterward.”

– Vernon Law

As you move f orward in lif e, you’re conditioned. Don’t

touch the hot stove. Look both ways bef ore crossing

the street. Pick your battles because lif e’s too short to

f ight over trivial things.

Whether you f ail or if you succeed (in your

relationships, in your career, or even in your lif e),

you’ve gained valuable experience that conditions you.

It’s up to you to decipher what worked and what didn’t

as you move f orward.

Think about those “hard knocks” in your career or

someone who inspired you and how you or they

overcame adversity. From more general lif e-based

ref lections to specif ic blunders in your niche, use these

ruminations to write the perf ect article f or your readers.

Introduction: “Just when I thought things couldn’t get worse …” Start with the climax of the hard

lesson you experienced (i.e., the most intense part of an event). The key is to hook the reader

while maintaining relativity with an engaging anecdote the reader will either relate to or want to

continue reading so they can avoid it.

Body: Hindsight is always 20/20, so take a look back. What events led up to this hard lesson?

Describe the back story.

List Recommendations: List tools, tips, steps, and/or precautions you would take to prevent or

alleviate the hard knock if you could go back and do it all over again.

Conclusion: Your readers don’t want to f eel despair; conclude on a heartening note! End your

article with why the reader should f ollow your ideas as well as how much time and energy you

would have saved had you known these things bef orehand.
