This interactive 39-hour program is addressed to people whose day-to-day activities require a solid
background and efficient use of financial terms in English. It focuses on communication and provides
a dynamic introduction to specialized English, successfully combining the understanding of financial
and banking concepts and processes with the use of such terminology in realistic business contexts.
Taught in small groups, the program requires that the participant already has an upper intermediate
command of the English language (Lower level). All activities are performed in class, making the
program appropriate for busy professionals.
Teaching activities include reviewing texts; flowcharts; diagrams; vocabulary exercises; speaking/
listening exercises; role playing; case studies, etc.
By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
• Use essential banking vocabulary with accuracy, fluency, and confidence
• Use this vocabulary to offer viewpoints, give opinions, and make comparisons of financial
accounts
• Use the financial jargon to discuss or present facts and figures with accuracy and clarity
Commercial Banking Operations
• Discuss roles, structures, operations, services, competition,
marketing, risk management, loans, mortgages, consumer
credit, electronic banking
• Obtain an overall picture of modern banking operations
Essentials of Company Finance
• Become aware of the terminology related to financing
decisions, budgeting, and break-even analysis
• Discuss sources and uses of capital and planning for profits
and financial objectives of the corporation
Financial Statements
• Read and discuss financial statements—their structure and
purpose
• Present and interpret financial ratios and cash-flows
• Obtain the relative background to effectively take part in
discussions regarding the financial performance of the
corporation
• Get the language skills to communicate with analysts,
investors, lenders, and the financial press in their jargon

Financial Planning and Decisions
• Become familiar with how to read and be able to describe
information from both financial statements and stock market
indicators, related to the financial decision making process
• Get confidence to participate in discussions related to
practicalities of raising capital
Working Capital Management
• Learn the terminology necessary to refer to daily
management of inventory, cash and credit of a modern
corporation
Small Business Finance
• Build confidence to discuss with capital providers or receivers
in English
• Address differences in terminology related to small business
financing process
Capital Markets and Investment
• Terminology related to operations in the stock exchange,
bonds, and derivatives market
• Read investor information in the financial press and be
professional, efficient, and crystal clear in relevant meetings
