The global financial crisis and economic recession have negatively

affected production and business activities of all Vietnamese enterpris￾es in general and garment and textile ones in Hochiminh City in par￾ticular as follows: both domestic and abroad consumption markets were

narrowed; production costs increased while selling prices decreased;

working labour was inadequate; limited capital sources resulted in not

meeting requirements of business restructuring process.

Nevertheless, with their own efforts and strong assistance from indi￾rect and direct support measures by the Government, garment and tex￾tile enterprises in Hochiminh City have overcome various difficulties to

maintain and develop their production and business activities as fol￾lows: taking all advantage of support policies by the Government and

associations; seeking new consumption markets along with maintaining

traditional ones; shifting production towards raising proportion of domes￾tic content in export textile and garment products; rearranging produc￾tion to improve quality and labour productivity aiming at reducing sell￾ing prices and expanding domestic consumption market...
