The International Journal of Communication (IJoC) is now in its ninth year and continuing
to exceed its own performance each year. Beginning in 2007 with 159 submissions, we had more than
700 submissions in 2014 (see Figure 1). In 2007, we had 1474 registered users, at the end of 2014, we
had 10,784.
Figure 1. IJoC annual publication figures 2006–2014.
In 2013, in addition to 74 research articles, IJoC published 42 articles in five guest-edited Special
Sections [our version of Special Issues]; in 2014, we published 85 research articles and 65 articles in six
Special Sections on topics ranging from WikiLeaks to Big Data to Transmedia Storytelling to Arab
Revolutions. We also initiated a new category, the Forum, guest-edited by Henry Jenkins and Nick
Couldry, that elicited 41 short commentaries from scholars on the topics: Creativity, Labor, Politics,
Knowledge and Education, and Platforms. We published 61 book reviews in 2014, somewhat down from
our high of 80 in 2013 (see Table 1 for details).
