SUMMARY
The effect of anticoagulants as heparin,
EDTA, and citrate on some homeostasistic
parameters

50 healthy normal people were voluntarily
involved in a study aiming at determining the
effect of anticoagulants on some
homeostasistic parameter Blood was
sampled in different tubes containing various
anticoagulants and a plain tube for harvesting
plasma and serum. The concentration of
glucose, cholesterol, total bilirubin, urea,
creatinin, total protein, albumin, calcium,
inorganic phosphorus, magnesium, and the
activity of aspartate aminotransferase (AST),
alkaline phosphatase (ALP), creatine kinase
(CK) and gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT)
were measured using an automated testing
system with the same conditions. Except for
GGT concentration, bilirubin and inorganic
phosphorus, other measured parameters
were significantly lower in citrated plasma
than that of serum. For corrected citrated
plasma significant differences were found in
the concentration of glucose, creatinine,
calcium and the activity of ALP. Most
parameters did not show any difference, but
the plasma albumin concentration was
significant higher in heparinated plasma
than that of serum. Using EDTA as
anticoagulant caused a significant
difference in the concentration of some of
the measured parameters in plasma except
glucose, GGT, cholesterol, albumin,
bilirubin, CK, and inorganic phosphorus
comparing with serum.
