A research on the linguistic factors affecting the

performances of the freshmen who are non-major

English students on TOEIC listening test at IUH.

ABSTRACTS

Listening skill, especially listening comprehension, plays an important role in the process of

learning a foreign language in general, and TOEIC learning test in particular. The research

associated with learning and teaching English listening skills has been of increasing interest in

Vietnam recently. However, research with respect to the main factors affecting the TOEIC

listening test of non-major English students at IUH is still limited. Therefore, this study is

conducted with the aim of investigating in-depth linguistic factors affecting the performance of

freshmen who are non-major in English at IUH. Questionnaires are used as the main instrument

to collect data. Based on the findings, the researcher proposes some recommendations for

students to help them develop listening skills and eventually improve their TOEIC listening test

scores.

Keywords: Listening, TOEIC Listening test, Linguistic factors.
